Last month, on a Monday at 7:00 a.m., the phone rang. It was a fleet manager I’ve worked with for six years. “How long can I drive with a bad control arm?” he asked.
“About as long as the ball joint decides to let go,” I said. “Could be a week. Could be before you get back to the shop.”
This wasn’t hypothetical. His 2019 Ram 2500 was the only truck in the fleet with a diesel exhaust system setup that could pull the 14,000-pound welding trailer. It was scheduled for a Thursday morning job 300 miles away. He needed the truck ready by Wednesday night.
The Phone Call That Started It

Under the Truck
